STD

Save the Date that is....

Initially, I wanted to use a picture from our engagement photoshoot as a basis for our save the date magnets. I've been rethinking the idea and decided to go with something else. The more I think about it, the more narcissistic it seems: please hang this photo of my fiance and I on your refrigerator forever! I may make them for immediate family members but not for everyone that I plan on inviting to the wedding.

I've been toying with a couple of ideas since but nothing is really sticking. The ideas include

1. A simple postcard with a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge or any other scenic bay area photo stating our names, date, and city of the wedding. Seriously, this would cost us less than $10 including stamps. This project would be super affordable.

2. Make something?!?!? I've seen some pretty cute save the dates on Weddingbee that seem simple enough which would be kind of nice. I like the idea of working on a craft project and mailing it to our guests. I still have a few months before we need to send it out so I guess it's back to square uno!

Tomatoes

I went to my grandmother's for Autumn Moon a few weekends ago and she gifted me with a basket of home grown tomatoes... I like tomatoes but I don't love tomatoes and I had no idea what to do with so many tomatoes. I don't care for them raw too much, not a whole dozen at least. Fruit flies started dominating my kitchen basket so I knew it was time to act on cooking the tomatoes if I wanted to at all. I checked for mold and threw one away but the rest were still plenty ripe and yummy looking. I preheated the oven to 350 F, quartered the gutted the tomatoes, then chopped up a bunch of garlic. I placed a piece of parchment paper on my baking sheet, lined the tomatoes up neatly, added at least once piece of garlic on top of the tomato, added salt and drizzled garlic oil on top and popped it in the oven for an hour and a half. The roasted tomatoes made my kitchen so home-y and fragrant... Jeff and I ate a few slices with bread for dinner and I packed the rest of the tomatoes tightly in a jar filled with olive oil so we can enjoy it for the remaining weeks.

I love roasted tomatoes

Where are you registered?

Um... I don't know

Wedding registry has been a tricky thing for us since we have a lot of household essentials from living together. I expect mostly cash gifts from my side of the family since cash is a common gift in Chinese culture. Jeff would like to receive cash from his side of the family as well but asking for cash is deemed tacky in American culture so we're not sure what to do. Space is also an issue. Our studio apartment is less than 500 square feet so realistically, we don't have much room for new "stuff". With that said, there are a couple of items that would be nice to receive as gifts for our home:

Thick, plush towels

Our towels are really, really old. Some new ones would be nice.

Wooden spoons

I love cooking with wooden spoons!

Le Creuset

The only thing I have to complain about my current cookware is that it doesn't evenly heat. I've heard great things about Le Creuset pots and pans and would love to have one or two pieces.

Roomba

I want one!!!

Kitchenaid Artisan standmixer

Food processor

I have a three cup food processor that I use all the time! I'd love to get a larger one so I can make larger batches of food. It's great for making soups!

There is also the option of registering for our honeymoon which would be lovely but we're not sure if we will be going on our honeymoon right after the wedding. When are we supposed to start registering anyways?

Ended up with something completely different!

My mom came to town for Autumn Moon Festival this weekend so we did some wedding errands... went to jewelry stores, went dress shopping and we actually ended up buying a wedding dress! It's completely different from what I had in mind but I really like it!

Pronovias - Rosana

Up till recently I had never tried on a dress with a train. OMG, so pretty!! I had never paid much attention to how beautiful bustles were either. When else in my lifetime will I get to wear a dress with a train and bustle?! Better milk it now.

Yes, it is strapless but since I need to it bring the dress up for length, I will have a lot of excess fabric to create cap sleeves for the dress. Happy days!

I can always buy a 1950's dress for special occasions... say, our first marriage anniversary?

I still adore dresses from the 1950's but for one day, no matter how impractical, I'm wearing a dress with a train that can bustle.

Our venue

Since we are having our wedding during the day, we have the option of serving brunch or regular lunch.  When we first booked our venue, we tasted the lunch option which was great but Jeff and I love brunch so we decided to make reservations at Scott's.  Sunday brunch featured endless champagne (Yum!) and food was served buffet style with an omlette station.  Eggs benedict is my favorite breakfast food and Scott's offered three types: regular benedict, crab cakes eggs benedict, and New Orleans eggs benedict.  There was a great spread of seafood brunch options as well as desserts.  I forgot to take pictures of the food but it was incredibly yummy.  We're leaning toward serving brunch at our wedding

Scott's doesn't have the best pictures of the venue on their website so here are some I took this weekend!

This is the ceremony/ cocktail area.  It's a little narrow but I love all the greenery.  No decorations needed!

Here is the reception area:

The green strings hanging from the ceiling are actually lights and looks really pretty when lit
